Breckenridge Lobster



For those of you who have visited Breckenridge, Colorado and heard locals talk fondly of the Breckenridge Lobster, you are now enlightened!

The snow formation in the shape of a lobster forms normally in early July from melting snow in the Horseshoe Bowl on Peak 8! Talked about fondly because it is associated with warm sunny days in paradise!

National Repertory Orchestra Porch Series



The National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) held it's first Porch Series event on the porch of Breckenridge Associates historic building, located at 229 S. Main Street, Breckenridge last Friday. The NRO consists of some of the top young musicians in the nation that congregate to play in the Orchestra and are located in Breckenridge for the summer months.

The next Porch Series events will be held again on the porch at Breckenridge Associates on July 10th,17th and 31st at 5.30pm.

Breck 150



This year is the 150 anniversary of the origination of Breckenridge as a Town, founded in 1859. Founded by a group of mining prospectors to becoming a wealthy gold mining town during the Gold Rush, to now being the most visited international ski area in the United States.

Summit County Building Permits Grind Almost To A Halt

Applications for building permits in Summit County yeart to date number just 8, accordng to the Summit County Builders Association.

Local government has decided to waive or discount certain application or building permit fees in a response to help stimulate new building starts.

Breckenridge Town Council to pass defensible fire break space ordinance

Breckenridge Town Council is in the final stages of approving a new ordinance requiring all homeowners to establish a defensible space around their homes in order to help protect lives and property in the event of a forest fire.

Adopting the Red, White and Blue Fire Department recommendations, the defensible space ordinance would require trees or groups of trees within 30 feet of a structure to be well spaced by about 10 feet and well-pruned. Within 75 feet of a structure, trees’ crowns would need to be separated by at least 10 feet.

The new ordinance is set to be adopted and effective as of July 1st, 2009.

Breckenridge gives a break on parking

Breckenridge Town Council decided to give some concessions on the parking fees and laws this summer and also next ski season.

During the month of May there will be no enforcement of the three-hour parking limit. The Town's paid parking lots, F-Lot, Tiger Dredge, Wellington and E. Sawmill are free until October 31st.

Overnight parking is permitted in the above mentioned lots but vehicles must be moved after 24 contiguous hours. Overnight parking is also allowed in the three hour lots but the vehicles must be moved by 10.00am.

Residential Permits: These allow long-term tenants or primary residence owners to park in excess of three hours and overnight in designated areas.

Employee Permits cost $25.00 for all designated areas allows and employee to park for greater than the three hour limit. This is on a first come, first serve basis. The Tiger Dredge Employee Parking fee is being reduced for the 2009/2010 season from $350.00 down to $250.00.
